With the release of the 2022 MONTE NOSTRUM Riesling on April 2, 2024, Weingut Robert Weil, together with the courtier "Bureau Barre & Touton 'Les Vins d'Ailleus'" and seven négociants, will become part of the worldwide distribution system Place de Bordeaux. The 2022 MONTE NOSTRUM is sold exclusively as a 750 ml bottle at Place de Bordeaux. The magnum format [2021 vintage from Weil's WEIN.ARCHIV] will be offered at the Rheingau VDP auction on March 2, 2024.
When the communication for MONTE NOSTRUM, which was initially planned as a new wine exclusively for the Rheingau VDP auction, began, "Barre & Touton" received a request from Bordeaux for an exclusive Riesling for Place de Bordeaux. Place de Bordeaux, which has operated as a marketplace since the 17th century, has increasingly established itself in recent years as a platform for the world's absolute blue-chip wines, such as Masseto, Ornellaia, Solaia, Opus One and Grange. During the discussions with Bordeaux, a high-quality group of négociants came together, which will now place and market MONTE NOSTRUM worldwide from April 2, 2024. "This renewed interest from the renowned Bordeaux trading center for a top German Riesling shows the international appreciation for Robert Weil Rieslings, but is also another important piece in the mosaic of the Riesling renaissance, which builds on the value of Rieslings from the Rhine and its tributaries around 1900," says Wilhelm Weil.
The past three years have been extremely successful for Weingut Robert Weil thanks to continued strong demand from the German market and strong partnerships in around 50 export countries.
Part of this success was also due to the trend towards icon wines, which has boosted the Gräfenberg, but also MONTE VACANO in particular. Prices for MONTE VACANO on the secondary market have "skyrocketed" and the magnum bottles set new records at the VDP auction. The €1,000 gross price has already been exceeded. However, it is not only the price, but also the international attention for MONTE VACANO as a dry Riesling, with top ratings of between 96 and 99 points for the last three vintages, that has boosted the value of this ultra-premium brand.
In addition to the historic MONTE VACANO label, there was also the founding label of the winery from 1875, which Dr. Robert Weil used to label his Rieslings in the traditional Weil blue. In order to ensure that this important historical label for the winery was not forgotten and to give it a new stage, it became the label for another important Robert Weil Riesling, whose documented roots go back to the 12th century.
This is the MONTE NOSTRUM Riesling, which comes from the coolest parcels of the Kiedrich hillside vineyards. This origin makes it a crystal-clear, polished, mineral Riesling that is bone-dry with an enormous draw [further details in the attached information sheet].
The 2022 vintage of MONTE NOSTRUM has already received worldwide acclaim with top ratings of 96 to 99 points.
