Kiedrich Gräfenberg

The Site
At the end of the 12th century, the site was still known as "mons Rhingravi" (hill of the Rhine counts). The name "Grevenberg" was first documented in 1258 and 1259.

The southwest-facing Gräfenberg site numbers among the Rheingau's renowned vineyards situated on the heights at the foothills of the Taunus Hills, some distance from the Rhine. It consists of sloping and steep parcels with an incline of up to 60%.

The site is blessed by excellent air circulation - one of its microclimatic advantages. This enables the grapes to develop in a healthy state over a long period of time, and in turn, to achieve a naturally ripe fruitiness.

The layers of medium to deep soils of stony, weathered, small particles of phyllite (similar to slate) mixed with loess-loam enable the vines to develop deep root systems and help ensure a sufficient water supply.

Wine Character
Gräfenberg Riesling wines are complex and have a distinctive mineral note. At the same time, they are marked by elegance and finesse.

The Gräfenberg Wines
The Gräfenberg site is well-suited to yielding grapes for the production of both top-quality dry wines (Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Erstes Gewächs) and lusciously noble-sweet wines designated with the Prädikats Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Eiswein and Trockenbeerenauslese.
